I have to thank Mike Oldfield for not hiring me to be the tour manager for the Tubular Bells tour of Europe in early 1979. I was told I looked too young to be his tour manager after Richard Branson had asked me to be interviewed in mid 1978.
Hilary Walker called me and said she had a great job for me fairly soon after I'd lost out on the Mike Oldfield gig. Hilary used to be head of promotions at EMI and I had worked along side her for a few years, mostly on Cockney Rebel stuff.
Hilary left EMI to work for Kate full time in '78 as her business manager and I am indebted to her for having been involved in one of the most magical tours of all time. Thank you Hillary xx

I've added these photos above in the photo album. Anyway, as the datesheet shows, I went to meetings with KB and take her to the Hammersmith Odeon the night after Nazareth has played there. I wanted her to hear the sound system, an ML Executive sound system with a bespoke built Neave sound desk, one of two they had bought for their systems. At that meeting I introduced Kate to Gordon 'Gungi' Paterson the sound engineer, that was a sight, Kate all of 5 foot not much more and Gungi, 6 foot 7 inches. Anyway we hired ML and Gungi and that is half the story now, of the head microphone Gungi helped design for the tour.
